The weather could not have been more perfect for the LCWC Vitality 5k and Summerfest! The weather was perfect for a morning of running, walking and comradery with friends and fellow athletes for the 2022 Vitality 5k.  Many thanks to our generous community sponsors-Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital, Leppinks Food Center, Community First Federal Credit Union, and Lakeview Family Chiropractors, they are all instrumental in bringing this annual event to our healthy community. Please support the businesses that give back to our community. We believe this was the 21st annual Vitality 5k. The annual race began at the Lakeview Community Wellness Center as a benefit for the KCWC Foundation which operates the non-profit Fitness Center.  We had 154 registered participants this year!

Great thanks to the local businesses who took part in our corporate challenge! The Community First Federal Credit Union and Lakeview Family Chiropractors were up to the challenge but in the end Community First Federal Credit Union brought in 63 participants and won the new trophy and bragging rights. The businesses had fun building their TEAM and TEAM building. We hope more of our local businesses participate next year.

The athletes ranged in age from 1 to o 76, competing in the 5k race competition. The annual race began at the Lakeview Community Wellness Center as a benefit for the KCWC Foundation which operates the non-profit Fitness Center.

Our races are chip timed which makes timing more accurate and calculations faster. Wildcat PRIDE Running Group is instrumental in bringing races to our community and help in our efforts to build Community Health Awareness. The next race event is Wildcat P.R.I.D.E. September 18th followed by the Turkey Trot.

This year Cooper Tiffany had a big goal, to take 1st place overall, and at 13 years old Cooper succeeded! With a time of 19:45.56, Cooper beat runners in their prime and with longer strides. His determination and hard work paid off. Pascal Winter was our overall adult male winner this year with a time of 20:30.98, beating his time last year. Molly Willison another fast LHS runner was the Overall Female 23:30.09. The category of Masters takes both age and speed into consideration.  Our 2022 Masters were Gail Shurlow with a time of 23:41.35, and Ted Volz of Ann Arbor with 20:33.33, very fast times-great job Masters!. We had an Under 13 Division this year also, and Rhianna Armstrong with 22:52.21 took that title. All these athletes had amazing times and took home new gym bags with their title.

Great Job to all our Runners! For a complete list of all athletes and times go to: WWW.RunSignUp.com The fun didn’t end there! The Vitality 5k included a fun run for kids.  Many of our young, 5k, runners came back to run with other kids as young as 2 years for the FUN RUN! The excitement showed on their faces as they ran from LCWC to the ferris wheel and proved they could run too! It made us all SMILE big as the crowd cheered them on!

The biggest reward in providing these events in our community is seeing the personal firsts and personal best records. For an individual who has never completed a race, just getting out there to do it is a huge step whether they are 5 or 75. We congratulate everyone who is just beginning their health/running journey and got out there; we hope these are the first 3.1 miles of thousands more-just keep moving!

If YOU are interested in running but don’t know where to start, LCWC and the Lakeview Running Group are willing to help you get going.  This group meets regularly at LCWC and it’s FREE. For more information on local running events checkout Lakeview Community Wellness Center on Facebook or Lakeview Run/Walk Group on Facebook and the Wildcat PRIDE Runfest. We are here to support you on your fitness/wellness journey.

We would like to thank our sponsors and the many volunteers for helping to bring you all this fun! LCWC and the Wildcat P.R.I.D.E. Group designed the Lakeview Race Series to bring health awareness to our community. In addition the Wildcat P.R.I.D.E. provides footwear to needy Lakeview student athletes. Last year we also helped to support the start of a youth basketball program. Join us and be a part of making our Lakeview community “the healthiest little town around!”  Luann Koester
